Afterpay (Clearpay in the UK) is a buy now, pay later (BNPL) payment method provider servicing shoppers in AU, UK, CA, US, and NZ. Afterpay allows shoppers to register their Visa or Mastercard-issued credit and debit cards, bank accounts, or digital payments (such as Apple Pay and Google Pay) and complete purchases with Pay in 4 or Monthly Installments. As of 2023, Afterpay is the most popular BNPL method in AU and NZ, and the second most popular in the US by user counts.

* Regardless of your business registration region, you can acquire from Afterpay shoppers globally. In each region, the shopper can only pay in their region’s local currency. For payments not priced in the shopper's local currency, Afterpay will convert the specified processing currency to the shopper's local currency.
Settlement currenciesDependent on where your business is registered:
HK/CN registered: AUD, NZD, CAD, USD, and GBP will be settled like-for-like or in your default settlement currency if your account does not support settling the processing currency.
NZ registered: All payments will be settled in NZD.
AU registered: All payments will be settled in AUD.

Manual capture Afterpay payments

Manual capture allows you to capture the fund sometime after the payment authentication. If the goods or services you provide are not immediately fulfilled after payment, manual capture is strongly recommended to improve the customer experience and reduce the dispute rate.

Afterpay manual capture is only available if you integrate with Native API or Plugins .

By default, manual capture is not enabled. If you integrate using Native API, you can specify manual capture at a transaction level directly when calling the Confirm a Payment Intent API API :

After you ship the goods or services to your customers, you must manually capture Afterpay payments within 13 days after authorization. You can do this through the web app or API call API. If the manual capture is not performed within 13 days, the authorization will expire.

If you are using the Shopify Plugin, manual capture is configured on the Shopify store level, which will apply to Afterpay and all other payment methods. If you enable manual capture, only payment methods that support manual capture, such as Cards and Klarna, will be available to the shoppers. klarna capture

Manage Afterpay disputes

A customer can raise a dispute within 120 days of the original transaction. The best way to resolve the dispute is to communicate directly with your customer to try and solve the issue together. If you can’t reach a solution, then Afterpay would step in to help solve the dispute. See Afterpay’s dispute flow for more details and instructions on handling Afterpay disputes.

Utilize Afterpay On-Site Messaging (OSM)

OSM is a customized promotional information tool. After integrating Afterpay OSM into your website or mobile app, shoppers can find Afterpay's flexible payment options at checkout. OSM is a great way to inform shoppers about these payment benefits in advance. AP OSM
