Gain access to Mexican shoppers through SPEI
The Sistema de Pagos Electrónicos Interbancarios (SPEI) is a local bank transfer method, developed and operated by Mexico’s Central Bank. SPEI’s key benefits include real-time transfers with 24/7 availability, no maximum transaction limit and low transaction fees compared to card payment.
SPEI offers an alternative payment method designed to help you attract and convert more Mexican customers making purchases on your websites and apps. Almost all banks participate in SPEI, making it a popular and standard method for electronic transfers in Mexico.

SPEI Payment Details
Payment due date
As a bank transfer payment method, SPEI does not require immediate payments. Once the payment is confirmed, your customers will receive the payment details via email and a unique payment link. By default, your customers have up to three days to complete the payment before the due date.
Payment identifier with CLABE number
For each payment, your customer will receive a unique CLABE number. This number is used to verify the payment amount before the payment due date. SPEI will reject a transfer if the amount is incorrect or if the payment is made after the due date.
How to pay with SPEI
Your customers will need to initiate the transfer in their banking app after receiving the payment details. Airwallex provides step-by-step instructions to guide your customers through the transfer process.
Email notification
By default, Airwallex will send 2 emails automatically to your customers:
- Payment details: an email containing the payment details will be sent to the customer immediately after checkout.
- Payment reminder: a reminder email will be sent two days after the order if no payment has been made.
To customize these emails, please contact our support team to add your company logo. You also have the option to disable Airwallex's default emails and send your own version instead.
SPEI disputes
There is no dispute risk associated with SPEI.
According to SPEI regulations, once a transfer order is settled and the corresponding settlement notice is sent to both the issuer and receiver, the order is considered accepted for all purposes. This settlement is final, irrevocable, enforceable, and binding upon third parties.
