Customers as the owner of payments

This model is applicable for SaaS platforms who want customers to collect payments upfront, own each payment, while the platform stays out of the funds flow. The platform's customers are onboarded onto Airwallex via Connected Account and act as MoR (Merchant-Of-Record).

Let’s imagine a fictitious SaaS platform named SaaSOS. One of their customers is BizCo and BizCo's users need to use the SaaSOS platform to make payments.

Platform SaaSOS, a platform offering software services to its customers, e.g., software applications, cloud storage, collaboration tools.
Customer A company who uses SaaSOS to process payments. Example customers featured in this guide include BizCo.
End User Individuals / Businesses searching for and purchasing desired products / services from BizCo.

Specific requirements may apply based on the jurisdictions to which you want to deliver services. Always speak to a member of the Airwallex team if you are considering implementing our Payments for Platforms solution.

Funds flow

The diagram below shows the funds flow for a SaaS platform looking to integrate with Airwallex's Payments for Platforms solution.

SaaS - customers own payments

The steps in the flow of funds are described below. Note that you can potentially initiate multiple operations at the same time - our teams will help you understand the options available in more detail.

Collect payments from end users

Platforms can choose to embed payments acceptance into their SaaS offering, enabling end users to make payments conveniently to customers, while having full control over the checkout page and enabling end users to pay through custom UI via Native API.

We support various forms of payments, including credit cards, and other most popular international and local payment methods for platforms to accept payments from shoppers across the world. Explore our supported 100+ payment methods.

Collect payment fee from customers

SaaS platforms can collect platform fees from their customers, while staying out of the funds flow, via our Funds Split capability, enabling platforms to automatically deduct fees from end users’ payments. This is especially important in the countries where the platform's involvement in their customers' funds is regulated (e.g., PSD2 in EU).

Convert funds and manage FX risk [Optional]

If funds need to be paid to customers in a different currency to the funds held in the Wallet, BizCo can specify a source currency in the Wallet to be converted. This allows for payouts to be made in more than 50 currencies globally.

Process payouts to customers

In this integration model, funds will move from each of customers' connected accounts to their external bank accounts, over Airwallex’s payout rails. The following capabilities can be used by your platform and connected accounts:

  • Payouts: Trigger payouts to external bank accounts using Airwallex's Payout APIs. Airwallex's network of local clearing systems supports payouts to bank accounts in multiple countries and currencies, with country-specific delivery time taken into consideration to ensure the payouts arrive in time.
  • Issuing: Issue cards to your customers for them to spend their Airwallex Wallet balances.
