In this article

Are you considering opening a WorldRemit Account? As with any decision that relates to financial management, having a thorough understanding of the services on offer will help you make an informed choice.

In this article, we’ll give a complete WorldRemit review, including a background to WorldRemit, how the account works, key features, eligibility requirements, regional services, associated costs, and their customer support channels.

What is WorldRemit?

Founded in London in 2010, WorldRemit is a digital cross-border remittance company known to offer a range of payment and transfer methods. They offer international money transfer and remittance services to over 130 countries.

WorldRemit specialises in helping individuals transfer money overseas and doesn't offer sophisticated cross-border solutions for businesses. So those that are looking for a money transfer service and other financial operations tools created specifically for businesses might want to explore more options.

WorldRemit Account key features and products

Let’s start this WorldRemit review with key features for Australian businesses.

Eligibility: WorldRemit serves individuals for the primary purpose of sending money to family and friends. Whilst UK businesses may have access to a specific WorldRemit business account, this isn't available for Australian businesses.

Sending and receiving money: Users can send money to over 130 countries and collect funds in a multi-currency digital wallet. WorldRemit facilitates four main methods of delivery. WorldRemit facilitates bank deposits and transfers, which are usually received within minutes. They also offer cash delivery services in some countries which may incur extra fees. The final method is airtime top-up which allows users to only use the payment to top-up their phone and cannot be transferred. These are usually instant.

App: WorldRemit’s app provides a way for users to send money online from their mobile device. With an intuitive UI, individuals can see where the fees are coming from, and track payments and transaction history.

Support: Users have 24/7 access to chat support via the app in six different languages. They also have email and phone support available.

WorldRemit Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Four different methods of sending and receiving money

  • Almost instant transfers

  • Intuitive app for individuals and quick set-up

Cons

  • May not be the cheapest option depending on the method of delivery and markup based on currency

  • Only offers consumer accounts in Australia. Business accounts only available to UK customers

  • Doesn't hold funds – only offers transfer services

International transaction fees and FX rates depend on amount, location, and speed of transaction.

Additional fees

Third-party fees may be incurred such as cash advance or overdraft fees.

WorldRemit User Reviews

Before jumping into WorldRemit, it may be worth checking what users have said about it on reputable review sites.

At the time of writing (7 March, 2025), WorldRemit has received a 3.7/5 star rating across almost 90,000 reviews on TrustPilot. The positive feedback generally claims that WorldRemit has been easy, quick, and convenient, with most people using it to send money to family and friends. However, there are poor reviews regarding the lack of support via emails and phone, with some experiencing suspicious behaviour and scam activity.

Overall, users suggest that WorldRemit’s value for individuals is that they offer almost instant transfers to send money overseas to family and friends. With an intuitive app and no account fees, individuals only need to pay transfer fees. In saying that, it seems that these international transfers may not be the cheapest compared to alternatives

How can users open a WorldRemit Account?

WorldRemit accounts can be opened online and require only an email address and some personal information to be shared for verification purposes. Once this process is complete, users can start transferring money.
